U.S. Embassy – Nairobi

Hinman provided blast, physical security, and fragment mitigation consulting for a new office building (NOX), support annex (SPX), and expanded Marine Security Guard Residence (MSGR) at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

This project encompassed a full blast analysis on critical structural elements and proof-of-concept glazing and curtain walls.

A full fragment survey was completed on site to establish the critical hazards from adjacent structures and site elements.

The non-blast hardened SPX required structural separation from the blast-protected NOX, which led to close coordination between Hinman, the structural engineer, and the architect.

A full fragment survey was completed on site to establish the critical hazards from adjacent structures and site elements.

This fragment impact study determined that upgrades to the fragment producing site elements were not required, saving OBO money by not having to upgrade structural connections.
