Darlene Lopez

Darlene Lopez recently graduated from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez with an M.E. in Civil Engineering. Her research has involved testing damping configurations on structures subjected to representative earthquake loadings (like the seismic activity that could occur in Puerto Rico) with the purpose of finding the best configuration for structural damage reduction.

Prior to working at Hinman, Darlene was involved with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working to create an artificial neural network that would predict pile embedment depth for flood prone bridges with missing structural plans.

While with Hinman, she will focus on the analysis and design of structures in response to extreme loads and performing dynamic non-linear analysis using SDOF/MDOF or FEM.

Outside of work, Darlene enjoys going to the gym, salsa dancing, finding coffee shops to read in, and volunteering in the construction of homes for Habitat for Humanity.
